“Educating in the
responsibility and self-discipline”
of critical thinking
In the secondary school stage, learning is focused on the student’s autonomy and the improvement of his or her ability to solve problems, reinforcing personal and social skills.
In this phase of learning, we continue working on the knowledge of languages acquired in the previous stage, which our students accredit in advanced linguistic competencies.
In addition, at this stage we reinforce critical thinking skills, the development of emotional intelligence and problem solving skills in all didactic activities.
As a continuation of the international and bilingual project followed in the kindergarten and primary school stages, there are also two languages of instruction in secondary school.
Throughout high school, our students can start the Dual American Baccalaureate.
At Legamar International School we believe that the official curriculum leaves out areas that we consider essential to guarantee the comprehensive education of our students.
For this reason, we develop a program of learning experiences throughout all school stages, which takes on a greater dimension in the secondary school stage.
These activities allow us to develop critical thinking skills, social and communication skills, initiative and entrepreneurship, and at the secondary level they place special emphasis on the participation of our students in projects organized outside the school by other institutions. Thus, during the Secondary and Baccalaureate courses, students have the opportunity to participate in Model United Nations Participation, Technovation Challenge, Tech Challenge, 20/30 Challenge, First lego League and olympiads in different academic disciplines.
The emotional education program for secondary school focuses on the ability to process situations more deeply and accurately, which allows for more refined and reasoned responses, a skill that constitutes the central core of emotional intelligence.
Adolescence is a critical stage that presents enormous challenges for personal development, since it is in those years when independence begins to be claimed and built and in which the referents cease to be the parents and become the peer group.
Drama, speech and debate and public speaking
Throughout secondary school and from the perspective of the existence of two vehicular languages, the oral communication skills of our students are addressed.
The activities of oratory and debate, drama or theater in English and public speaking are aimed at the development of rational, logical and discursive thinking; the development of critical thinking, oral and corporal expression and respect for the opinions of others.
Learning to be a citizen
The Class Council election system helps our students reflect on the commitment to service to others that comes with accepting one of the three positions: Spokesperson, Secretary and Coexistence Mediator.
Each of these three positions has an associated responsibility and, directed by the tutor and advised by the Guidance Department, they help throughout the school year to ensure that the work and coexistence climate in the classroom is adequate both to carry out academic tasks and to develop positive social bonds among all members of the Educational Community.
